High School
Youth Group
Our High School Youth Ministry (HSYM) encourages each participant to follow Jesus, connect with His church, and serve His world.  Towards the fulfillment of that purpose, the HSYM offers four programs.  If you would like more info, contact Pastor Hamstra at 448.0186 or shamstra@paloschurch.org

  • Catechism
Catechism, for 9th - 12th Graders, is designed to help teenagers establish their identity with Christ as servants in this world. Catechism is held on Wednesday nights throughout the school year at The Link. This class is different from any other catechism class. The group meets from 7:00 until 9:00; however, "class" is only held from 7:20 to 7:50pm. During the remaining time students can hang out, play in the game room, or eat and drink food and pop.

  • Service
At Palos, we don't refer to our high school students as the "church of tomorrow." They are the church of today and we expect them to make a contribution to the church by serving in one form or another. Most of our students serve on Sundays, by helping in the nursery or with Kid's Club or with Ushering. Some even help out in worship by reading scripture or participating in Worship Team.

  • Special Events
The HSYM offers several special events designed to broaden and deepen the spiritual journeys of its youth. Each summer, we attend a covention or retreat. We also sponser intergenerational mission trips and service days.

What is "Catechism
A Catechism is a scriptural study guide used by Christian churches to instruct its members in the faith.

Our church uses the "Heidelberg Catechism" developed during the Protestant Reformation in 1563. Other resources we use for spiritual development include the Apostle's Creed, the Nicene Creed, the Belgic Confession, the Canons of Dort, and other resources developed by the Christian Reformed Church of North America.
